چکیده
We first revisit the mathematical modeling of flexoelectric effect in context continuum mechanics at infinitesimal deformations. establish and clarify relation between different formulations, point out theoretical numerical issues related to resulting boundary value problems, present natural extension finite then a simple B-spline based computational technique numerically solve associated which can be extended handle unfitted meshes, hence allowing for arbitrarily-shaped geometries. Several examples illustrate benchmark setups, as well new devices metamaterials engineered sensing or actuation.

My research is focused on mathematical modeling in the interdisciplinary areas of materials science and crystal growth and on development of advanced computational methods for tracking material/fluid surfaces and interfaces. Primarily, I am interested in modeling formation of a micro(nano)structure arrays as a result of the morphological (shape) instabilities of a solid film surfaces, material ...

متن کاملMathematical and Computational Modeling of Neurons and Neuronal Ensembles
In Computational Neuroscience, mathematical and computationalmodeling are differentiated. In this paper, both kinds ofmodeling are considered. In particular, modeling approaches to signal generation and processing in single neurons (i.e., membrane excitation dynamics, spike propagation, and dendritic integration) and to spatiotemporal activity patterns in neuronal ensembles are discussed.
متن کاملMethane in Subsurface: Mathematical Modeling and Computational Challenges
We discuss mathematical and computational models of two applications important for global climate and energy recovery involving the evolution of methane gas in the subsurface. In particular, we develop advanced models of adsorption occuring in coalbed methane recovery processes, and discuss the underlying conservation laws with non-standard terms. Next we describe the phase transitions relevant...
